Case Study
Plastic Lid Conveyor System – Custom MODU Conveyor Build
EQM recently completed a custom MODU conveyor system designed to collect, merge and move plastic lids from two injection moulding machines into one controlled production flow.
The system was built around the customer’s site layout, product handling needs and production process. It was assembled and tested in-house by EQM before being shipped to site.
The Challenge
The project required a conveyor system that could collect plastic lids from two separate injection moulding machines, bring the two lines together, and feed the lids toward the next stage of production.
The lids needed to be handled smoothly with minimal product contact. The system also needed low side guides to help keep the lids on the conveyor while allowing clean movement through the layout.
Key requirements included:
- Collecting lids from two injection moulding machines
- Merging two conveyor lines into one controlled flow
- Smooth product handling with low side guides
- A layout suited to the existing production area
- Reliable drive components for ongoing operation
- Flexibility for future layout or production changes
EQM’s Process and Solution
EQM designed the system using MODU MM3 chain conveyor, set up in a customised layout to suit the product and site requirements.
The MODU MM3 system uses an 83mm wide multi-flex plastic chain running in an aluminium frame. This conveyor style is well suited to layouts that require turns, controlled product movement and clean handling through tight production spaces.
For this project, the conveyor layout was designed to bring two product flows together and move the lids toward the next stage of the line. Low side guides were included to help keep the lids stable as they moved along the conveyors.
The system was also fitted with transfer guides, rollers, guards, support parts and shaft-mounted gearmotors to create a complete working conveyor solution.
Built and Tested In-House
Before shipping, EQM assembled and tested the conveyor in-house. This gave the team the chance to check the conveyor layout, product flow, guide positions, transfers, drive setup and general operation before it reached site.

Summary
This project shows how EQM can design and build custom conveyor systems around a specific production challenge.
By using a modular MODU conveyor system, EQM was able to create a practical layout that collected, merged and moved plastic lids through the line with controlled handling and reliable operation.
From concept and component selection through to assembly, testing and support, EQM helps New Zealand manufacturers keep production moving.
